The FemEng Virtual Outreach programme involves five volunteers from the committee (acting as ‘mentors’) that have a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and enthusiasm for promoting and encouraging STEM fields to pupils of all ages, in particular primary school pupils aged between eight- to twelve-years-old.
This project allows for FemEng to stay active in the Outreach area during these unprecedented times (where we are limited to online interactions). This project enables engineering students at the University of Glasgow to volunteer and give back to local schools around the Glasgow area and beyond, through our pre-recorded Video Series (with access though our YouTube Channel or below).
This programme will run for five weeks, with there being an introduction to a new discipline within engineering each week. Each workshop will have one or two FemEng members who specialise in the discipline. Pupils will get a chance to learn about each engineering discipline and have a fun interactive activity to do with their mentor, which will be shown by a walk through.
We have created a few complimentary documents to go alongside these workshops with the aim of helping the teacher understand the workshop better and help with the children's literacy skills. Feel free to contact us if you would like to join our virtual outreach program and receive these documents.
