In the beginning of February 2020, FemEng were invited to visit the Clyde Wind Farm by SSE, along with members of Equate Strathclyde. Upon arrival we a were welcomed by the onsite staff who explained the workings of the farm. We learned about the initial creation of the farm and its expansion over the years, the different types of wind turbines they have, how it is connected to the network, the power produced, the energy market and their daily roles within the job. After having a tour of the farm, we were all amazed at how tall the wind turbines actually are! Siemens (the designers and builders of the turbines) also gave us a virtual visit of a wind turbine, further explaining the technology behind how they work. We are extremely thankful to SSE for giving us this opportunity. The team learned so much! |
